  • go to the Topics page,
  • look at the types of writing listed there,
  • tell me which types of writing you would like to do this term.

Journal Topic for Next Class

I don't usually give you journal topics, but I would like you to think about the following questions about computer technology and the Internet in education.

  • How do you feel about using the computers in this class?
  • Would you prefer if everything was on paper?
  • Do you ever access this page from home?
  • Would you take this course if you could take it from your home and not have to come to Tokoha?
  • Which is more important at graduate school, getting information about a subject or making contacts with friends and professors? They could be equally important.

Today:

  1. We will look at coherence and cohesion.
  2. Because the explanation and examples are long, I will give them to you as a handout.
  3. You may also access the same material from the homepage.
  4. The cohesive writing page is here.
  5. The coherence and cohesion page is here.
  6. I gave you a sheet of Transitional Expressions in Term 1. The expressions are very useful for develop cohesion in your writing.

Possible Topics

  1. I will not give you a specific type of composition to do, but want you to write a composition paying attention to your use of cohesive devices.
  2. You might consider doing a movie review, book report, or a letter to the editor of a newspaper.

You could also take something you have read recently or have been thinking about and write a composition.
