Japanese Culture: Ordinary Breakfast in Japan

Bread or cereals are popular breakfast among people in North America and Europe. Recently years many Japanese people are eating bread for every breakfast, too. But for most Japanese, when it comes to breakfast, there is nothing like miso soup and rice. I like miso soup and rice, too. Wheat is to Americans and Europeans what rice is to Japanese. There are many grades of Japanese rice. Miso soup is quite a simple soup. It is made of many kinds of ingredients, stock and soup. First, dried bonito or kombu seaweed is put into boiled water and a few seconds later taken out. Then usually two or three kinds of ingredients put into the stock. The typical ingredients are tofu, daikon radish and onion. Then last put in miso and disolve. I have heard miso soup agree with American people, too. And that, miso soup is really healthy because it has about 40~50 kcal per serving.
