  1. The Term 1 project will be a poster presentation.
  2. First, choose a topic you are interested in and that you want to be able to explain to someone in English.
  3. Everyone must have a different topic.
  4. Write an outline and collect material from books, TV, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, etc.
  5. Make a poster similar to ones I show you.
  6. Think about what you will say, draw and write.
  7. Be able to explain in English what you write on your poster.
  8. Next week bring a B5 size sketch of your poster and a written copy of what you plan to say.
  9. Next, draw your large poster in pencil and show it to me for a final check before you use permanent markers or paint on it.
  10. Go here for some examples of previous posters done by CEP students.

Possible topics:

  1. Explain something, for example, a rule or an aspect of a sport such as sumo, or something about Japanese culture.
  2. An environmental issue -- global warming, air pollution, ozone depletion, recycling, solar energy, etc.
  3. How to make something, for example, a recipe.
  4. Explain how to do something, for example, diet, make stained glass, play a game, etc.
  5. Explain a current news topic.
  6. Any other topic that interests you, but check with me first.

Length: Presentations should be about 3-4 minutes.

Hints for Designing a Poster:

  1. A good poster combines graphics (graphs, flow charts, etc.), pictures or drawings and words.
  2. Don't write too much on your poster. It is not simply an essay on a big piece of paper.
  3. Make the details on the poster big enough for all to see.
  4. Use contrasting colours to help things stand out.
  5. Don't use light colours such as yellow or orange for writing.

Paper: 110 x 80 cm. paper costs about ¥50 a sheet.

Marks: You poster will be marked on:

  • the content of the presentation,
  • the visual effectiveness of the poster and
  • the fluency of the presentation.
